Northend United 2 Ballymena United 3
This was a tightly contested derby match from start to finish with both sides battling hard. The first real chance fell to Ballymena and it produced a great save from George McClean diving high to his right to palm the ball away but Ballymena took the lead after 10 minutes as they got in behind the defence. Stevie Bristow and Ben O'Neill were working hard in midfield and it was O'Neill who went past his man and slipped the ball to Shea O'Broin but his shot was saved. The midfield duo combined again to close down the Ballymena players to win the ball back and as it fell to Jay McKeown and out of nothing he swivelled round to unleash a ferocious right foot shot as the ball sailed over the keeper into the back of the net. Soon afterwards O'Broin went past his man and played it to McKeown who again smashed a superb shot over the keeper into the net for Northend to take the lead. The defence of Callum McAvoy, Ben Adams and Zach Erwin were having to defend well against a clever Ballymena attack with McAvoy again having a strong game. However Ballymena equalised from a corner after some poor marking to leave it 2-2 at half-time.
Early in the second half Ballymena scored what proved to be the winner after the ball was not cleared properly. Northend tried in vain to get back into the game as O'Neill and McKeown had a couple of half chances but couldn't beat the Ballymena keeper who pulled of some fine saves. Ben Adams moved forward to produce a fine effort but the ball went wide. Billy Bell was working hard down the left and won a free-kick after being bundled over. McKeown stepped up to hit it and his brilliant effort almost caught the keeper out but he readjusted himself to tip the ball over the bar to leave the final score 2-3.
Man of the Match: Jay McKeown - 2 top class goals and plenty of effort and commitment

Northend United 1 Lurgan Town 6 Saturday 16th April 2016
Northend weren't up to their usual standards and they were punished against top quality opposition. Lurgan took an early lead but Northend responded when Ben O'Neill played the ball through for Jay McKeown to equalise. After that the Ballymena boys never really got going and gave Lurgan too much time and space. There were a couple of half chances that fell to Ben O'Neill and Shea O'Broin but they couldn't convert them. Callum McAvoy had a strong game in defence but Northend lost their goalkeeper, George McClean, to injury for 20 minutes and Ben Adams bravely stepped in deputise. This was a match for the boys to forget and be prepared to put in the hard work at training and next Saturday to get back to their usual standards.

Northend United 4 Glenavon 1 Saturday 9th April 2016
On a lovely spring morning in Lisburn, Northend faced a Glenavon side who they had beaten twice already this Season. Though as the match unfolded it wasn't long until they realised this was a much stronger Glenavon side with a lot of new faces brought in. The opening minutes of the match was an even affair, until an excellent throughball from Shea O'Broin found Jay McKeown. He turned his man on the edge of the box and fired it in off the crossbar into the roof of the net. Shortly afterwards we saw the move of the match when Ben O'Neill picked up the ball deep in his own half and made a surging run and played a lovely through ball to O'Broin who drilled it across the edge of the box to the on running Zack Erwin who smashed it first time in off the post to make it 2-0 to Northend. This half was not all one sided as Glenavon came forward strongly for the rest of the first half, though Stevie Bristow, Callum McAvoy and Ben Adams defended well and George McClean made at least three top class saves to keep them out. Half time 2-0
The second half saw both teams create chances, but again McClean pulled off save after save. Halfway through the second half O'Broin found McKeown down the left hand side and his cross was cleverly dummied by O'Neill for Kyle Wakefield who was running in and made no mistake from five yards out. Again Glenavon came in search of a goal but the Northend defence stood strong, then a long ball from McAvoy sent McKeown clear and again he hit a sweet shot into the top corner to put the game safe. The match ended with a consolation goal for Glenavon who possibly deserved a little bit more from the game. A special mention goes to Jamie Frew making his debut and battled well. Full time 4-1

Northend United 2 Windmill 2 Saturday 2nd April 2016
Northend came up against Windmill who had beaten them twice already this season and will feel they did enough to win the game but ended in a pulsating 2-2 draw. As usual the Ballymena boys started well pressing the opposition deep into their own half and got their first opportunity when Ben O'Neill dispossessed his opposite number and found Jay McKeown. He slipped it through to the recalled Billy Bell who could only find the side netting. Then O'Neill, who was back to his best, had a chance himself but was wide and again Bell found the side netting as Northend piled forward. Stevie Bristow played a long ball over the top and when the Windmill defender made a mess of the clearance McKeown made no mistake as he nipped in to smash the ball right footed into the back of the net to make it 1-0 on ten minutes. Windmill came back strongly and George McClean had to be on his toes to block an effort. The defence of Zach Erwin, Ben Adams and Kyle Wakefield had to be at their best to keep the lead with Erwin having an impressive performance as he got a vital block in. McClean made another save before Bristow again played a long ball over the top which found its way through to Billy Bell to race clear and finish left footed into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. McKeown was upended for a foul outside the area and he got up to fire the free-kick over the wall but the keeper got his hands to it. Northend had to hang on for the last couple of minutes as McClean made a double save, first diving to his left and then saving with his feet to maintain the 2-0 lead at half-time
Windmill got a fortunate goal back early in the second half when a slack defensive clearance found its way to their striker and his shot got a deflection to leave McClean no chance. Northend were battling hard with Wakefield having a particularly impressive game as he dealt with the Windmill danger man and nullifying him out of the game. Ben Adams nipped in to win the ball and played if forward to the superb Bell who crossed for McKeown. His shot was saved and the rebound fell to Shea O'Broin but the keeper managed to keep his header out as well. McClean came out of his area to make a long clearance that fell to McKeown and as he crossed O'Broin made contact with an acrobatic overhead kick what flew narrowly over the bar. Northend were dealt a sucker punch when they conceded a soft goal for Windmill to draw level but they didn't give up on finding a winner as a McKeown was well saved. The game really opened up in the final few minutes with both teams going for the winner as O'Neill burst through but his shot went wide and Northend had to rely on McClean again to make two excellent saves to leave the final score 2-2
Man of the match : Billy Bell for his battling performance and excellent goal on his return to the team.

Larne Soccer Sevens Monday 28th March 2016
Northend United 0 – Abbey Villa 1
Northend played in the traditional Easter Monday Larne tournament against Abbey Villa in a match they dominated but ended up with no points. Ben O’Neill was outstanding on the left wing causing their defence problems all match. Stevie Bristow was bossing midfield and unleashed a peach of a left footed drive from 20 yards that came back off the post. O’Neill was bundled over outside the box and Jay McKeown stepped up to take the free-kick but his effort was cleared by the man on the post. Abbey Villa got a free-kick on the half way line and their keeper came forward to strike the ball into the Northend box but it unluckily flew straight into the top of the net. Northend responded with urgency with O’Neill again causing problems and as he burst down the left wing he crossed for McKeown to slide the ball into the net but the final hooter sounded seconds earlier to the supporters disappointment.
Northend 2 – Larne Youths 0
The Ballymena boys responded brilliantly in a game they knew they had to win as they took the game to Larne. Stevie Bristow again dominated midfield as he dribbled past 2 players, drew the defender and slipped the ball through to McKeown who smashed it first time into the back of the net. Ben Adams and Zach Erwin were solid in defence and Adams played the ball forward to O’Broin on the right who worked himself into space to smash a left foot cracker into the top corner.
Northend 1 – Coleraine Academy 0
Northend came up against their old rivals Coleraine who put them out of the tournament last year. O’Broin burst forward and played the ball through to McKeown who finished nicely. The midfield trio of Ben O’Neill, Shea O’Broin and Billy Bell were combining superbly and working really hard. However on a rare Coleraine attack their midfielder hit a cracking effort towards the far post which made George McClean produce a stunning save. After that Coleraine were attacking well and the defence of Erwin and Bristow had to be at their best with Erwin bravely putting his head in front of a thunderbolt to prevent a certain goal.
Northend 1- Celtic Boys 0
The final game of the group saw the second and third placed teams in the group go head to head with Northend having to avoid defeat to guarantee runners up spot. It was an evenly contested match with Celtic putting in an impressive performance and looking for the goal that would put them through to the next round. Ben O’Neill and Stevie Bristow again had notable performances and Jay McKeown worked tirelessly up front. It was Shea O’Broin who got the all-important goal to leave Northend with 9 points and safely through to the quarter finals
Northend 1 – Roe Valley 1 (Roe Valley through on penalties)
The Ballymena side dominated the early stages of this match with Jay McKeown bursting forward but he was upended with a bad foul as he was clean through on goal. He stepped up to hit a great free-kick but it was deflected for a corner. After a few corners Zach Erwin was on hand to smash the ball into the back of the net. The turning point of the match was when Ben O’Neill and fouled and had to leave the field. This allowed Roe Valley back into the game and after some slack defending they got the equaliser with 2 minutes remaining to put the game into penalties. With the lottery of penalties it was Roe valley who progressed into the semi-finals.
The coaches were immensely proud of the players after battling back from an unfortunate early defeat and each and every one of them put in great performances to make the quarter-finals. It was a great experience for them and will make them stronger for a few upcoming tournaments. They will have nothing to fear and will be in with a very good chance of winning one of them. A special thanks to many of the parents who provided food and drink for the players and coaches in which was a very enjoyable and well organised event.

Carrick Rangers 1 Northend United 1 Saturday 19th March 2016
Northend will feel aggrieved to only come away with a draw in this match due to their territorial advantage against a strong Carrick Rangers team who are semi-finalists in the NIBFA cup. Right from the start the Ballymena boys were working hard with a high pressing game aimed at giving the talented Carrick players little time on the ball. Their tactics worked a treat when in the fifth minute Stevie Bristow dispossessed the Carrick midfielder and played the ball to Jay McKeown. He played a delightful cross field ball to the left wing for Kyle Wakefield to sneak behind the defence and finish first time to take the lead. Carrick responded well but the defence of Zach Erwin, Callum McAvoy and Ben Adams were outstanding in dealing with the tricky forwards. Northend won a corner but when Carrick won possession they broke forward at pace to stretch the Northend defence and their right winger slotted the ball into the far corner to leave George McClean no chance. Bristow and O'Neill had to be at their best in the midfield tussle with Carrick and McKeown battled hard against their quality centre half to give him no time to play the ball forward. Northend were closing down the opposition brilliantly meaning they were mainly camped in the Carrick half but their keeper proved hard to beat with Shea O'Broin and McKeown both having shots saved. Half-time 1-1
The second half was a hard fought battle with few chances being created with both defences on top. Northend continued to play their high tempo game as they pushed Carrick deeper into their own half. The attacking pair of O'Broin and McKeown combined well to create the best of the chances with O'Broin making space for a shot which the keeper saved. Ben Adams was having a superb game at right back nipping in to stop attacks and getting forward at every opportunity. Bristow again broke up a Carrick attack and found O'Neill in space who worked the ball wide to O'Broin. He made a yard of space to get an excellent shot in but the keeper pulled off a super save for a corner. As the corner came across McKeown found O'Neill in space but his shot was saved again. The reliable Callum McAvoy and Zach Erwin were strong in defence with Jamie Magill coming on as Northend continued to push forward. O'Neill burst into the Carrick half and found O'Broin but he was upended for a free-kick out on the left that Jay McKeown stepped up to take but the keeper managed to save. Carrick had a late flurry in attack but the defence held strong in an overall superb performance against top quality 1st division opposition. Final score 1-1
It is very pleasing for the coaches to see an increase in the level of commitment and performance from all the players as we test ourselves again top teams in recent weeks. This will continue to develop the players to a higher level against the stronger opposition.
Men of the Match : Jay McKeown, Stevie Bristow for their battling performance and never say die attitude.

Northend United 2 Lisburn Youth 2 Saturday 12th march 2016
With Northend finishing the season with First Division opposition this turned out to be an encounter that they shall feel gutted to draw. All-be-it, it was Lisburn who came out of the traps the sharpest, took the lead in the first minute and controlled the early minutes of the match, Northend then started to get a foothold on the match with Ben O'Neill and Stevie Bristow taking control of the Midfield. A few half chances fell to Shea O'Broin and Jay McKeown but they were either wide off the target or blocked. Then the move of the match came when Ben Adams sent a long ball down the line to McKeown, who beat his man and sent a low drive across the box for Kyle Wakefield to meet and place into the back of the net to make it all square. Half time 1-1
This half would start and end with Northend in control and Callum McAvoy, who was carrying a groin injury, being his usual rock in the centre of defence. Jamie Magill, who was now starting to push forward out of defence played a lovely ball into Wakefield, who switched it back outside to McKeown, who ran forward and cut inside onto his trusty right foot and sent a shot into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance. With Northend now ahead, numerous chances and corners fell short and two McKeown free kicks went just past the post. Then with three minutes remaining Northend had a rare switch off to let Lisburn in for their equaliser. Full Time 2-2
Man of the Match: Stevie Bristow. Broke up Lisburn's possession time and time again from his holding roll in Midfield and started every attack for Northend.

.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Northend United 2 Carniny 3 Saturday 5th March 2016
Northend started strongly in this Lisburn cup match against their Ballymena rivals and dominated the first 10 minutes when they should have been 2 or 3 goals up. They took the lead in the 5th minute when Ben O'Neill won the ball in midfield and played a delightful pass over the top to Jay McKeown who took it past the defender with his first touch and then drilled the ball inside the near post leaving the keeper no chance. Minutes later O'Neill was fouled outside the box and Shea O'Broin stepped up to smash a cracking left footed free kick off the bar. Northend continued to press forward as McKeown played O'Broin in but the Carniny keeper saved well. Stevie Bristow won the ball in midfield and found O'Neill who played it through to McKeown and as he raced towards goal the defender got back to do just enough to full contact and the keeper saved again. Carniny slowly got into the game and it took good defending from Callum McAvoy, Zach Erwin and Ben Adams to keep them out. Carniny won a free kick just outside the box and prevent him getting their midfielder crashed it off the bar similar to the earlier Northend effort. The equaliser eventually came in the 20th minute when good play down the left by the winger and he crossed to the far post for their striker to slot the ball home. Northend still had time to take the lead again as a poor clearance fell to Shea O'Broin and he made no mistake as he drilled the ball into the back of the net. Half-time 2-1
At the start of the second half Northend never really got going as Carniny came back strong and pegged their Ballymena counterparts back into their own half. Early into the half Carniny broke through to score the equaliser and they continued to push forward as George McClean was called into action on a number of occasions. Bristow and O'Neill were battling hard in midfield and Erwin and McAvoy were impressive at the back but Carniny took the lead for the first time when they won a free kick outside the box and their midfielder made no mistake with a well-placed shot. Northend responded well as they pressed forward for the equaliser and won a series of corners. The first by O'Broin fell to Erwin but his effort was wide and then one by O'Neill rebounded to O'Broin and as his shot was heading towards the bottom corner but a Carniny defender got a toe to it to deflect it wide for another corner. McKeown had a half chance late in the game but it went wide as time ran out for Northend to find the equaliser. Full-time 2-3

Northend United 5 Glenavon 0 Saturday 27th February 2016
Straight from the kick-off Northend took the lead as Ben O'Neill ran forward and played the ball to Jay McKeown who crossed for Shea O'Broin to slot the ball into the back of the net. Glenavon pushed forward and George McClean in goal had to be alert to pull off a smart save to keep the lead. O'Broin found space in midfield and played a lovely cross field ball to Billy Bell to raced down the left wing and played the ball across to McKeown who rolled his marker beautifully but his shot was well saved. The defence of Callum McAvoy, Jamie Magill and Ben Adams where keeping Glenavon at bay, while Kyle Wakefield was solid in the middle of the park. Adams played the ball to O'Neill who ran from inside his own half to stretch the Glenavon defence and laid the ball across for McKeown to finish for 2-0. O'Broin showed great skill to beat 2 men and found McKeown in space but watched his effort roll wide of the post to leave it 2-0 at half-time.
Early in the second half Northend won a free kick which O'Broin floated into the box, Jay McKeown found himself in space but he saw his header go agonisingly over the bar. Shea O'Broin was running the show in the second half as he picked Glenavon apart with some fantastic skill and vision to switch the play and create space for others. The third goal came when O'Broin ran forward, drew the defender and slipped the ball to McKeown who slotted the ball past the keeper as the ball rolled into the bottom corner for 3-0. Stevie Bristow controlled the defence in the second half and Ashton Cruise making his debut looked impressive on the left hand side. McKeown won a corner and it was a very pleasing goal from the coaches point of view as a move straight from the training ground worked perfectly as Ben O'Neill found space at the edge of the box and drilled his left footed shot into the top corner. Again it was O'Broin skill that created the fifth goal as he beat a couple of players and chipped it through to McKeown who placed it into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick. Full-time 5-0

Northend United 3 TW Braga 0 Saturday 20th February 2016
This started out a very tight encounter with neither team really creating any clear cut chance's and a constant battle in Midfield where neither team gave much away and maybe Braga had the slightest advantages. Then with maybe fifteen minutes gone Northend won a corner which was only cleared to the edge of the box where Ben O'Neill was on hand to hit it first time with his weaker right foot into the net. Another corner followed a few minutes later and again O'Neill was on hand, but his shot was blocked only to fall to Zack Erwin and he put his effort just wide. Another chance fell to Shea O'Broin who also pulled his shot wide. By now, and for the rest of the game Northend took total control and were able to use all their players at will. As the half came to a close George McClean would become Goal Keeper and Goal Maker as his brilliant kicking sent Jay McKeown clear and he placed the ball past the Braga Keeper into the bottom left hand Corner. Half time 2-0
In the second half Erwin, O'Neill and Stevie Bristow were now in total control in Midfield and pressing Braga every time they had the ball, and this was how Northend's third would come when O'Neill would not give up on a ball that should never have been his, but his determination won it and he fed a lovely ball out wide to O'Broin who headed towards goal and sent a powerful low shot from an acute angle past the Braga keeper. A period followed where McClean was called into action a few times and one of these moments was a brilliant save that he tipped over the bar. The game finished with Callum McAvoy finding Billy Bell out wide and his run to the by line ended with a low drive across the box which Kyle Wakefield slid in and put just wide. Full time 3-0
Man of the Match: Ben O'Neill (a complete midfield performance with a goal and an assist to add).

Northend United 2 Warrenpoint Town 3 NIBFA Cup Saturday 13th February 2016
Northend came up against a strong Warrenpoint team in the last 16 of the NIBFA cup. Both teams started brightly with Warrenpoint having the wind advantage pinned Northend back in the early exchanges. Northend began to get into the game more with Jay McKeown and Shea O'Broin combining well before O'Broin was bundled over for a free kick. He shook himself off and got up to unleash a beautiful left footed free kick towards the top corner but the Warrenpoint keeper pulled off a wonderful save. Stevie Bristow and Ben O'Neill were getting to grips with the Warrenpoint midfield and O'Neill created space for himself to hit a long range effort which crashed off the bar. Bristow then won it in midfield and played the ball through to McKeown and as he was racing towards goal the defender got back to clear it for a corner. From the resulting corner Warrenpoint cleared the ball and swiftly broke forward with the right winger finding himself in space, he raced down the wing before sending over a delightful cross for their forward to head the ball into the net leaving George McClean no chance. Northend responded brilliantly as they pressurised Warrenpoint into a few mistakes and got the equaliser when Ben O'Neill burst through from midfield with his shot being saved. The rebound fell to O'Broin and his effort was saved as well but as the ball fell to O'Neill there was no way he was going to be denied a second time as he smashed the ball into the back of the net to the delight of the fans. Northend dominated the next few minutes with O'Broin cutting inside but his shot was saved and then he fired a free kick narrowly wide from 20 yards. Warrenpoint hit Northend with a sucker punch at the end of the first half when slack marking at a corner let the forward in for a soft goal to leave it 1-2 at half-time.
The second half started with Northend pressing forward in search of the equaliser again. An early corner was floated across by O'Broin and big centre half Callum McAvoy rose to send a header towards the bottom corner but it somehow came back of the post and as it fell into McAvoys path he drilled the ball straight into the mid-drift of the keeper. Another corner soon afterwards was somehow kept out as McAvoy and McKeown had goal mouth efforts cleared off the line. Bristow then won the ball in midfield and played a ball over the top of the defence for McKeown but his first time effort went over the bar. O'Broin, O'Neill and McKeown were playing some lovely football causing the Warrenpoint defence all sorts of problems and Bristow, McAvoy and Zach Erwin were picking up the second balls as Northend pushed forward. Ben Adams was playing out of his skin at right back and George McClean controlled his area with ease. The deserved equaliser eventually came when Ben O'Neill burst forward from midfield with some delightful skill as he beat 2 men and got the shot away and as the keeper parried his effort Jay McKeown was on hand to drill the ball into the net as the spectators went wild. Northend continued to press forward as the game opened up with exciting end to end action. O'Broin showed off his silky skills as he drifted past 2 players and sent a lovely left footed effort towards goal but was saved again. Bristow picked up the loose ball in the centre of the park and drove forward before releasing Billy Bell down the left wing and he sprinted past his marker to centre the ball to McKeown who was bursting into the box but it went narrowly wide. With Northend pushing forward Warrenpoint won the ball back and counter attacked at pace to take the lead with only 2 minutes to go. Northend weren't finished yet as they pressed for another equaliser and O'Broin and McKeown had chances but couldn't find a way past the Warrenpoint keeper to end their NIBFA adventure in dramatic style. Full time 2-3
This was a superb team performance with each player raising their game and giving everything they had. On another day it could have been 5-3 but it just wasn't Northend's day. A special thanks to the many supporters who turned up and made themselves heard and encouraged the team throughout. Also a special thanks to the many mothers who put on a fantastic spread after the match to the satisfaction of the players, supporters and Warrenpoint team who went home with full tummy's.

Northend United 4 Hillsborough Colts 0 Saturday 6th February 2016
Northend travelled to Lisburn to play their first round of the Lisburn Cup Match against the very same opponent's they defeated last week in their Cup match at the Showgrounds. On another wet and cold day Northend did what they did in the opening 5 minutes last week when some great work from Shea O'Broin sent Ben O'Neill closing in on goal and his shot deflection to send the Hillsborough keeper the wrong way and put Northend in front. Midway through the 1st half Northend would double their lead when a great through ball from O'Neill sent Billy Bell heading toward goal, and with just the keeper to beat his shot was well saved. But the keeper couldn't hold it and Jay McKeown, following in like any good striker made no mistake from 5 yards out. A period followed where a couple of chances fell to McKeown and Stevie Bristow. Then the move of the half began with Jamie Magill winning the ball and sending O'Broin away down the wing, who cut inside and played it back into the path of McKeown who smashed it first time into the top corner from twenty yards. Half time 3-0
The second half started with Hillsborough coming out at Northend, but the defence and George McClean in goal, dealt with everything that came at them. My now O'Broin was really putting his stamp on the game, running and beating players, time and time again. Callum McAvoy hit the crossbar from a corner and then a period of play and one touch football from Zach Erwin, O'Neill, Bell, Bristow and McKeown ended with Shea O'Broin hitting the post from the edge of the box. The game finished with O'Broin going on another trademark run, weaving in and out past four players before send O'Neill clear, who placed the ball past the keeper into the bottom right-hand corner. Full time 4-0
Man of the Match: Shea O'Broin - His best game since he came back from injury and when he plays like this he can win games himself.
